There are quite a few Canadian celebrities that you may not have realized are from the Great White North, but they are! They play hockey , eat copious amounts of back bacon and maple syrup , and they know how to use the word “eh” in context. (OK, those are some major Canadian stereotypes, but they could be true!). In any case, here are seven celebs you’ll be surprised are Canadian.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson
He may have been born in California, but a lot of people don’t know that he comes from a family of wrestlers, and his dad, who was a professional wrestler known as Rocky Johnson, hails from Nova Scotia. His grandfather and cousin were also wrestlers, and his grandmother was one of the few female wrestling promoters.
Anna Paquin
She was raised in New Zealand, but this beauty was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba (her mother was a teacher from New Zealand and her father was a Canadian gym teacher). She left Canada with her family when she was 4 years old.
Hayden Christensen
A Vancouver, BC native, Christensen was raised in Thornhill, ON and spent most of his formative years there. He even played competitive hockey in high school. (So some stereotypes are true!)
Michael Cera
Cera was born in Brampton, ON, where he attended school until ninth grade before completing high school online. Want to hear something very Canadian? His first acting gig was in a Tim Horton’s commercial.
Donald Sutherland
Born in Saint John, NB, this distinguished actor later moved to Bridgewater, NS and studied at Victoria College as well as the University of Toronto. When he was 22, he left Canada and moved to Britain.
Magic!
Yep, this band is from Canada! This reggae fusion band got their start in Toronto, where most of their bandmates were involved with other projects and found themselves releasing their debit single “Rude” in October 2013.
Deadmau5
Deadmau5, born Joel Thomas Zimmerman, is a Canadian record producer and DJ from Toronto as well. He was born in Niagara Falls and lived there till after his high school graduation.
