Dave Grohl Broke a Glastonbury Record… For Swearing

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl broke a Glastonbury record during his band’s headline performance this past weekend, after saying the most swear words in a Worthy Farm set ever.

The record, previously held by last year’s headliner Adele who swore 33 times over the course of her 90-minute set, was broken by Grohl who encouraged his audience to take part in a chant of “f**k, f**k, f**k” to the tune of ‘Skin and Bones’.

Standing on the Pyramid Stage, Grohl said: “We were doing an interview and someone said, “You know you’re not supposed to swear? There’s no swearing at Glastonbury.”

He continued: “And I said, “What the f**k is that supposed to mean?” And then I guess Adele holds the record for saying the most f**ks at a Glastonbury gig. Now I love, Adele but guess what…” Grohl then proceeded to launch into the “f**k” chant along with the audience, before concluding: “OK, I think we broke her record. I heard it was 33.”

However, the crowd continued to bellow the chant at the band, to which Grohl replied: “Dude, shut the f**k up! That’s 34.”

Prior to their Glastonbury 2017 headline performance, Grohl admitted that he was unaware of the swearing ban that the festival’s performers are requested to adhere to. “You aren’t allowed to f***ing swear at the show?” he said. “Good luck. Oh god, they are in for a big surprise with that one. S**t, I didn’t realise that.” He also jokingly added that he has “anxiety-driven Tourette’s.”

The BBC requests that artists performing at Glastonbury refrain from swearing, as many of the performances are broadcast live on TV and online. However, over the years many artists have broken these rules, culminating in Grohl setting the new benchmark during the Foo Fighters’ headline slot. Grohl and the Foo Fighters finally performed on the Pyramid Stage after previously being booked to headline back in 2015, a performance which they were forced to cancel after the frontman broke his leg.
