Comic-Con 2017 | ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Adds Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne

While we’ve all been focusing on the biggest upcoming Marvel Studios movies – like Thor: RagnarokBlack Panther and Avengers: Infinity War – it’s been a little too easy to overlook a certain, smaller film. Or at least, a film about small superheroes. Ant-Man and the Wasp is coming to theaters next summer, and we just learned more about the production at Comic-Con 2017, where Marvel Studios also announced two new cast members.

Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Begins) has just joined the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp as Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp in the comic books, whose disappearance into the Microverse was an important plot point in the original Ant-Man film. She will be joined by Laurence Fishburne (Man of Steel), who will play Dr. Bill Foster, a scientist who – in the comics, at least – eventually dons a costume and becomes the size-changing superhero Goliath. The villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp was also revealed to be The Ghost, a high-tech villain usually associated with Iron Man, who has the ability to walk through objects like, well, a ghost. The Ghost was originally a corporate saboteur, which fits the world of Ant-Man just fine, since the plot of the first Ant-Man was all about corporate malfeasance in the first place.

Superhero movie fans might be amused that Marvel has just hired two actors with famous DC superhero roles under their belt, but given the dominance of the superhero movie genre nowadays, it’s actually surprising that these sorts of overlaps don’t happen all the danged time.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed, will also star Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas, and will arrive in theaters on July 6, 2018.
