The Strokes and Rick Rubin sounds like a match made in music heaven. Yet thus far, it has to happen… until (maybe) now.
According to Albert Hammond the New York City retro-rockers are working with the famed producer (Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West) and Def Jam co-founder on their upcoming album.

Now, before you get your skinny jeans tied in a knot, take the news with a grain of salt because Albert Hammond Jr., not Sr, is the guitarist/vocalist/producer for the Strokes.
The original Albert Hammond let the cat out of the bag in a recent interview with the The West Australian. “I speak to my son every day and he says that they’re so happy,” says Hammond Sr. “I’m sure this will be a very successful record.”
Before you dismiss this as #fakenews, take in mind that Hammond Sr., is a talented musician in his own right (having written and played on songs with Johnny Cash and Celine Dion), has been linked to the Strokes since their early days as a New York garage band.
In the interview, Hammond Sr., alleges to have paid for the Strokes’ studio time to record their 2001 breakout debut Is This It.
“Nobody understood them, so I said, ‘Here’s the money, go in the studio and make the record’,” he said. “I never got it back, but it doesn’t matter. I just love knowing I helped them out.”
“I’m very proud of the band and of my son,” Hammond Sr. added. “They’re like all my children because I was there from the beginning. “I used to go to their rehearsals and they were very loud. I used to say ‘Guys, guys — mountains and valleys, highs and lows.”
