Nintendo Labo Harnesses the Power of the Cardboard Box

I’ll admit that I was one of the doubters when it came to the Nintendo Switch. During its reveal, I said it looked bizarre and thought it would be another Wii U epidemic. But Nintendo made me eat my words, and so I’m going to refrain from judging the new Nintendo Labo before its April 20 release.

“What is the Nintendo Labo?” I hear you ask. Well, it’s essentially just a kit filled with cardboard pieces. These are put together to make a fishing rod, or a house, or a motorbike, or a piano– Hell, there’s a lot that the Labo can turn into!

The best way to explain it, is to show you. Check out the handy Nintendo Labo trailer embedded below:

Get ready to Make, Play and Discover with Nintendo Labo! Nintendo Labo is a new line of interactive build-and-play experiences that combine DIY creations with the magic of Nintendo Switch.

So yeah, it’s cardboard combined with the Nintendo Switch to make something fun for kids, big and small.

When Labo launches on April 20, it’ll cost buyers a minimum of $69.99 for the cheapest kit. That contains the materials necessary to build five different “Toy-Con projects.”

It looks like a lot of thought has gone into the designs, and I’m curious about how well Labo will sell.
