It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Officially Nicolas Cage As Superman

Nic Cage is practically cartoonish with his acting style. Not to mention the dude is now in his mid-50s, making it impossible for him to play a live action Superman despite it actually being a legitimate possibility once upon a time. Plus, it was recently revealed in Action Comics #1000 that Kal-El is, in fact, immortal. No way an immortal man would look like that.

But fear not, as Hollywood will always find a workaround if there’s money to be had. The latest Teen Titans GO! film, for instance, is the perfect opportunity to fulfill the actor’s lifelong dream, and he was sure to leap (tall buildings in a single bound) at the opportunity.

It was recently announced that Cage will voice Superman in the upcoming Teen Titans GO! To the Movies on July 27th. Executive producer Sam Register had this to say regarding the choice in an interview with USA Today:

Every superhero in the DC Universe has an impact on the fans, so we felt a great responsibility to find a voice for each character that would not only suit the role, but the playful tone of the Titans, and we’re thrilled with our cameo cast.

These days, celebrities are picked seemingly willy-nilly to voice cartoons, so it’s refreshing to hear that this choice goes well beyond Cage’s star status and hinges more on his love of the character. The guy named his son Kal-El Coppola Cage for Superman’s sake! We think he’s earned the opportunity to soar in the role.
