Ryan Reynolds Drops Hilarious ‘Winne-the-Screwed’ Ad For Mint Mobile and It’s Right on the Honey

You can always count on Ryan Reynolds for a laugh, even – or especially – when he’s trying to sell you something. The Deadpool actor is also a savvy businessman. He’s hawked his own wares like Aviation American Gin as well as other companies’ goods and services, including Match.com and Peloton. But his latest hilarious promotion is for Mint Mobile, the cell phone provider he co-owns and reps.

In a new ad posted on Instagram, Reynolds reinvents the children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh and turns it into Winne-the-Screwed.

“Chapter 1, in which we are introduced to Winnie-the-Screwed and his big wireless bill, and the stories begin,” Reynolds reads from an illustrated book that looks almost identical to the original tale by A.A. Milne. “Here is Edward Bear reviewing his latest bill form Big Wireless.”

On the page is a drawing of Winnie-the-Pooh banging his head on a table. “Bump, bump, bump, he slams the front of his head as hard as he can against the table as he realizes how much he’s being charged. It is, as far as he knows, the only way to have a cell phone, because he hasn’t yet switched to Mint Mobile. Anyhow, here he is getting worked over like so many people, and ready to be introduced to you. Winnie-the-Screwed.”

The story continues: “Like anyone with a big wireless plan, Winnie-the-Screwed just wants to keep some of his sweet, sweet money. But his money jar gets emptier and emptier with every monthly bill. So, I told Christopher Robin that anyone can get 3 free months of Mint Mobile now until Friday at midnight. The end.”

The silly spot was inspired by Winnie-the-Pooh entering the public domain, meaning that the material has reached an age where others can republish or reuse it without worrying about copyright.

We don’t know that this version will become a go-to bedtime story for children, but it certainly got our attention and is right on the honey (as Winnie-the-Pooh himself might say).
