Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar? We’re putting our money on Elmo. That red-haired monster with the annoying voice is apparently very territorial about his desserts, and a new viral video indicating as much has drawn ire from all corners of the internet.
The short clip, titled “Elmo Feels He’s Treated Unfairly by Rocco,” shows Elmo and Zoe fighting over an oatmeal raisin cookie. Zoe claims she’s saving it for her pet rock, Rocco, and Elmo loses his shit.
“How? How is Rocco going to eat that cookie, Zoe? Tell Elmo,” the Sesame Street celeb whines. “Rocco doesn’t even have a mouth. Rocco is just a rock. Rocco is not alive.”

Oof. That’s a little harsh, especially for a children’s TV show character.
The video was viewed over 8.4 million times (in case you were wondering what captures people’s attention these days). Twitter users were more than happy to jump in on this epic food fight between these (equally obnoxious) muppets. Most seemed to be on Elmo’s side.

The buzz got to be so loud that Elmo himself apparently felt the need to respond.
“Don’t worry everybody! Elmo and Zoe practiced sharing and are still best buds forever! Elmo loves you Zoe! Ha ha ha!” he tweeted.
Nice enough, right? Until you see the last line of the tweet, which reads, “Elmo doesn’t want to talk about Rocco.”

And he didn’t stop there. Elmo got a little salty, subtweeting, “Has anybody ever seen a rock eat a cookie? Elmo is just curious.”

Oh, Elmo. We understand how frustrating it is to waste a cookie on a pet rock, but c’mon, it was just an oatmeal raisin cookie, which is at the bottom of the cookie hierarchy anyway. You’ve gotta let this one go. Be the bigger man…err…monster for once.
