Nicolas Cage as Dracula Makes All His Movies Somehow Worth It, Easily 2022’s Go-To Halloween Costume

Fans of Nicholas Cage are bound to be psyched by a first look at the actor’s forthcoming role in the horror-comedy Renfield. That’s because the two-time winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor is playing Dracula!

The film, directed by Chris McKay, is named after Dracula’s loyal henchman in the Bram Stoker tale. It tells the Dracula story from the perspective of Renfield, played by Tolkien star Nicholas Hoult. Tell us these pics don’t get you excited:

As you can see, the 58-year-old is rocking spooky makeup, a blood-red velvet suit, and eight gold rings worthy of a count. He even has long, creepy fingernails, purple-tinted lips, and a ghoulish complexion.

Cage has said he took inspiration from fellow Dracula actors like Bela Lugosi, Frank Langella and Gary Oldman, but he also wants to take the character in a new, dramatic direction.

“I want it to pop in a unique way from how we’ve seen it played,” he told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “So I’m thinking to really focus on the movement of the character. … I want to look at what we can explore with this movement and voice.”

We got a little peek at what Cage can do with this kind of fantasy role in the 1989 horror-comedy Vampire’s Kiss. In that cult-favorite flick, he played a delusional man who thought he was a vampire. We suspect he’ll go all the way in bringing Dracula back to life (or is it back to the undead?).

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait to see Cage in Renfield until April 14, 2023. In the meantime, you can focus on crafting your own Cage-style Dracula Halloween costume.
