In the latest edition of Worst Reviews Ever, we’re pulling together the best audience movie reviews on the internet for G.I. Jane. From the funny to the ironic, the truthful to the downright silly, we’re diving into the deep, dark rabbit hole of online movie fandom.
These days, G.I. Jane is more infamous for its connection to the Will Smith Oscars slap than the movie itself. For those who are somehow unaware, Chris Rock joked about looking forward to seeing Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, in G.I. Jane 2 due to her bald hairstyle. Jada’s Alopecia is apparently a sore subject for Will, who proceeded to commence with the “slap heard round the world.”
Originally released in 1997, G.I. Jane was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Demi Moore as the first woman to undergo special operations training. While the story is fictional, the movie is infamous for Demi Moore’s shaved head. Even though the film was a box office success and Moore’s performance was a highlight, the movie also garnered a coveted Razzie win for worst actress.
But in the aftermath of the Oscars slap, the movie takes on a whole new meaning, at least for the users of the platform Letterboxd.com. As should be expected by the internet, the reviews for G.I. Jane suddenly take on a whole new meaning and everyone seems to want to let us know about it. While Ridley Scott’s film is certainly a time capsule in more ways than one, these hilarious reviews make us yearn for a sequel.
