‘The Bear’ Renewed For Season 2 by FX (Yes, Chef!)

Current and former restaurant workers (and the people who love them) will be thrilled to hear FX has given a second season of the high-octane drama series The Bear the green light.

In case you’re behind on your must-see streaming, the eight-episode Season 1 dropped on Hulu on June 23. The show, which was created by Christopher Storer (Ramy), centers around Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White of Shameless fame), a fine-dining chef who takes over his family’s scrappy sandwich shop after his brother Mikey (Jon Bernthal) dies by suicide.

The Original Beef of Chicagoland in Chicago’s River North neighborhood is the setting of this mouthwatering drama, and it’s where Carmy butts heads with kitchen staff, particularly his sister (Abby Elliott) and his late brother’s best friend Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Things only get worse when Carmy recruits a Culinary Institute of America-trained sous chef (Ayo Edebiri) to elevate the greasy spoon’s aesthetic.

The series immediately garnered raves for its realistic depiction of the hectic, fast-paced, foul-mouthed environment that is a busy, cramped kitchen in the midst of a rush. With fully fleshed-out characters grappling with serious issues like grief and addiction, the show struck a chord with audiences and apparently inspired the powers that be to say “Yes, Chef!” to another season.

“The Bear has exceeded our wildest creative, critical and commercial expectations,” FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier said in a statement. “We deeply appreciate the brilliant work led by creator and co-showrunner Christopher Storer and co-showrunner Joanna Calo. Jeremy Allen White’s lead performance is spectacular, as are those of his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. We can’t wait to get to work on season 2.”

Storer and Calo added: “We are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast, and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched. And we can’t wait to bring you all back to The Bear in 2023.”

2023?! That sure does feel like a long time to wait for the next installment of this surprise hit, but we suppose we can just comfort eat sandwiches until the Season 2 release. Order up!
