Swift has been increasingly transparent about her political views and vocal about the importance of voting for the right leader into power. Previously, during the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, she had endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris while publicly criticizing Donald Trump and his administration as the 45th President of the United States.
Once again, Taylor Swift has shown her support for a Democratic candidate after her recent Kamala Harris endorsement post. In the note, she mentioned watching “the debate tonight” and urged her dear Swifties “to do your research on the issues at hand.” The 34-year-old singer emphasized learning more about “the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most.” She also mentioned, “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”
The “Love Story” singer addressed the recent controversy concerning the “AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump” online. She discussed how the incident “really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.” She then continued, “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
In the lengthy caption for the endorsement post, Taylor Swift stated that she “will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.” She also jotted down her reasons for choosing Harris, stating that Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” She continued, “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Additionally, the Grammy winner praised Kamala Harris’ “selection of running mate @timwalz [Tim Walz].” She claimed to have been “so heartened and impressed” by Harris’ choice of Walz, “who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
Finally, Taylor Swift signed off the Kamala Harris endorsement note as a “Childless Cat Lady,” a sly dig at a controversial remark made by Trump’s current running mate, JD Vance. Previously, in 2021, Vance called Democratic leaders “a bunch of childless cat ladies.” He had also said that the opposition politicians “are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made” and came under fire after his derogatory statement recently resurfaced.
Swift’s endorsement post comes amid recent drama surrounding her and Brittany Mahomes‘ hug at the US Open Finals. Last month, Mahomes faced backlash for appearing to support Donald Trump, which led to Trump defending Mahomes.
