Jim Parsons Reveals How a Beard Changed the Shape of His Face

Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” recently made a Broadway comeback and looks almost unrecognizable in a beard. Parsons, best known for playing Sheldon Cooper in the acclaimed sitcom, is shifting from his usual, clean look to grow a beard. The Emmy winner showed up with his new look, notably contrasting to that of the popular TV character, at the CFDA Awards. He then explained his reason for sporting a beard, and it’s almost unbelievable.

Jim Parsons sporting a beard at this year’s CFDA Awards at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City was quite unusual of him. However, the 51-year-old has a valid justification for this new beard look and explained his reasons to Entertainment Tonight in a short conversation. The interviewer pointed out Parson’s “different look,” asking him if it was for the Broadway role in the revival of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.”

In response, Parsons explained that he “grew it knowing that I was going into the play but the play didn’t need it.” He then talked about having the beard talk with his barber. Parsons recalled, “I was like, ‘You always have a beard?’ He was like, ‘Well, I kinda have a weak chin and blah blah blah’ and I was like, ‘Oh! It can change the shape of my face.'” After realizing what a beard could do to his face, the award-winning actor claimed he wanted to try it. Hence, he is now growing a beard.

Jim Parsons stars as the legendary stage manager in the revival of the Pulitzer-winning play “Our Town.” The show opened in theaters on October 10 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater and will remain for a limited run through January 2025. This is the play’s fifth revival by director Kenny Leon since its debut in 1938. The latest rendition of “Our Town” comprises a spectacular cast including Katie Holmes, Zoey Deutch, and other prominent names besides Parson.
