Legendary musician, composer, and producer Quincy Jones died in his Bel Air home on November 3 at the age of 91. According to the Los Angeles Times, Jones, who shaped the late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s career, passed away in the presence of his children and other close family members. Officials have yet to disclose his official cause of death.
Jones’ family called his death “an incredible loss” in a statement, further describing him as “truly one of a kind.” His family stated they will “celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones produced a trilogy of Jackson’s albums that skyrocketed the pop icon’s music career and produced the award-winning hit single, “We Are the World.” He raised millions of dollars for Ethiopian famine victims using this charity single which dropped in 1985. Jones also famously produced Lesley Gore’s 1963 smash “It’s My Party” from her debut album, “I’ll Cry If I Want To.”
Quincy Jones died on Sunday at his home in Los Angeles, but his cause of death is yet to be disclosed. The entertainment industry is currently mourning the loss of the legend, and several prominent Hollywood figures, including Colman Domingo, Michael Caine, and Victoria Monét, have already paid tribute to Jones’ life and career.
Oscar-winning actor Michael Caine called Jones his “Celestial twin” and a “titan in the musical world” in a touching tribute. Meanwhile, Monét revealed Jones was “one of my biggest inspirations.” Additionally, Domingo wrote on X (formerly X) that the late producer was “Mr. American Music” to him and a “King.” Other celebrities to pay tribute included Billy Bragg, Jeremy O. Harris, and Lady Zamar, among many others.
Besides being a Grammy-winning music giant, Jones received an honorary Oscar earlier this year. Before that, he was nominated for seven Academy Awards throughout his music career. In 1996, he also won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Nonetheless, this only marks a fraction of Quincy Jones’ achievements. The list of his accomplishments is far longer than most other artists in the second half of the 20th century.
