Honey ‘Male Performance Enhancers’ Sweep TikTok, But They May Be Lethal

A new trend on TikTok involves men consuming honey packets marketed as natural male enhancement supplements. These products claim to boost sexual performance but have raised serious safety concerns. Health experts warn that some honey supplements contain hidden pharmaceutical ingredients.

Viral honey male enhancement supplements may cause major health issues for some

According to USA Today, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has specifically warned about certain honey male enhancement supplement brands, such as Royal Honey VIP and Kingdom Honey. These products have been found to contain undeclared active ingredients like tadalafil and sildenafil, the same components found in prescription medications for erectile dysfunction.

These undisclosed substances can interact dangerously with other medications, particularly nitrates prescribed for conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Combining these ingredients can lead to severe drops in blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, or more serious health complications.

Because these products are categorized as dietary supplements, the FDA does not strictly regulate them, and their contents are not thoroughly reviewed before reaching the market. This lack of oversight means users might not know what’s actually in them, allowing harmful products to be sold without proper warnings or dosage information.

Unfortunately, the popularity of the supplements among college students is growing. According to Newsweek, videos on TikTok show students discussing and encouraging the use of these honey packets, sometimes with alcohol or other substances. However, combination can amplify the risk of adverse effects. Consuming these products without medical supervision is risky, especially since most young men do not require intervention for sexual performance.

Any men experiencing concerns about sexual performance should seek guidance from a medical professional. Rather than turning to unregulated supplements, which can be risky and potentially harmful, a doctor can provide a safe and effective solution. There may be underlying issues causing erectile dysfunction that can be addressed through proper medical channels. Additionally, young, inexperienced men may have a skewed perception of what is expected of them and may not have any issues at all.

The FDA recommends that consumers exercise caution before purchasing any product marketed for sexual enhancement, weight loss, or bodybuilding, especially those claiming to be “all natural.” Those experiencing any adverse effects related to these products should report them to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
