Donald Trump on Being TIME’s Person of the Year: ‘I Like It Better This Time’

President-elect Donald Trump reacted to TIME Magazine naming him Person of the Year for the second time at the New York Stock Exchange. On Thursday, Trump rang the opening bell at the stock exchange at 9:30 a.m., commemorating the unveiling of the new magazine’s cover. There, he said a few words about receiving the “tremendous honor” not once but twice, quipping, “I think I like it better this time.” TIME revealed its choice for Person of the Year on X (formerly Twitter) earlier that morning.

Donald Trump says 25% of his TIME covers are great in NYSE video

Speaking at the NYSE, Donald Trump thanked TIME Magazine for the multiple cover features over the years. The president-elect joked how he only “probably” liked about 25% of the covers. He added, “25% are great” before remarking that he just “sort of” hides the remaining issues. Nevertheless, Trump pointed out that it has “been an honor” and that it has been an honor each time. Lastly, he again showed appreciation to the whole group at the news magazine, describing them as “very professional people.”

The politician also mentioned his administration’s “great first term” when he was the 45th President. “We did a good job,” he noted, further adding that they achieved this “despite a lot of turmoil.” In his remarks, Trump also mentioned how the media has “tamed down a little bit,” surmising that “they’re liking us much better now.” Additionally, he believes they will “have a tremendous run,” starting with straightening out “some problems, some big problems in the world.”

Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany, and Vice President-elect JD Vance joined him at the podium as he unveiled the TIME cover as the Person of the Year and made his big speech. The news magazine had previously bestowed the same honor upon him in 2016.
