Black Sabbath have unleashed “God is Dead?” the first single off their forthcoming reunion album 13, which officially arrives June 11th via Vertigo/Republic.
A meandering, rising instrumental proceeds under a vocal that concludes with Ozzy screaming “God is dead!” over and over, a cauldron of beats arriving from Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk’s eager – and able – pounding. Listen to the track below, and try not to scream when the sounds are interrupted with the iHeartRadio tags scattered throughout:
Sabbath are taking full advantage of their revitalized backbone with Wilk on drums, and the oversight of a production guru, Rick Rubin, working the knobs. The fresh blood brings the pioneers of heavy metal to the modern age with surprising efficiency – and just enough downtuning to accommodate age to be noticeable.
13 marks the group’s first studio effort together since 1978’s Never Say Die! Check out our full track-by-track review of the album right here.
