Band of The Month: The Mowgli’s CraveOnstage Session & Interview

CraveOnline’s latest Band of The Month is a new flavor of greatness, consisting of five childhood friends from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles augmented by 3 mid-western transplants. The Mowgli’s first blew us away when they performed at our SXSW showcase this year (alongside Eagles of Death Metal, Reignwolf, My Goodness and more), tearing down the house with their harmony-rich blend of 70’s California folk and modern indie rock charm. Their songs convey a relentlessly upbeat positivity, a framework for their message of universal love.

With breakthrough single “San Francisco” firmly locking their name in the public consciousness, The Mowgli’s debut album Waiting for the Dawn arrived last June on the Island/Def Jam imprint to celebratory reviews and huge fan enthusiasm. It’s not difficult to understand why when you’re at a Mowgli’s show – and chances are you’re going to come face-to-face with at least one of the band members during the performance. The band almost always leaves the stage to mingle in the crowd, always pushing to make more of a connection with their audience, to dismantle the invisible barrier between artist and spectator. It’s just one element that defines what The Mowgli’s are truly about – an uplifting, collaborative, joyous and communal experience in the name of love.

We’re thrilled to have brought them into the Bedrock Studios in Los Angeles for an exclusive CraveOnstage session as part of July’s Band of The Month feature – check out a barn-burning rendition of “Leave It Up To Me,” the first of four performances coming your way this month.

While you’re at it, stick around and check out an interview with the whole Mowgli’s crew as they discuss their musical inspirations, their charity work and the response of friends they’ve written songs about.

Pick up Waiting For The Dawn and keep up with The Mowgli’s at their official website, as well as on Twitter and Facebook!
