Still a couple of weeks out from the lineup announcement, promoters of Australia’s Big Day Out aren’t being shy when it comes to talking about the summer festival, pegging the upcoming announcement as the best lineup the festival has ever featured.
New Zealand promoter Campbell Smith gave an exciting interview to NZ radio station The Rock ahead of the festival’s return to the country, saying BDO 2014 will feature “the best and biggest lineup we’ve ever had.”
“It crosses all the musical genres that you’d expect at the Big Day Out,” Smith said. “When you look at the headliners, the second slot, third slot and fourth slot are probably all festival headliners.”
Apparently building a superfestival comes at more of a cost and as a result BDO ticket prices are to hit an all-time high. The 2014 price is $185 and is more than previous years due to the ridiculous amount of big names set to appear according to BDO CEO Adam Zammit.
“$20 more than last year but an extra headliner. 2 of our headliners have never played an Australian festival,” wrote Zannit recently on Twitter.
Festival promoter Ken West has ruled out appearances from potential headliners Neil Young, Kanye West and Jay-Z, however he recently declared his excitement over the lineup saying “I was hoping for one ‘White Whale’, managed to get two and ended up with three.”
American festivals Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza are both run by BDO partners C3 Presents and 2013 acts- including The Cure, The Black Keys and Deadmau5 are all anticipated to join.
