After the Tupac hologram spectacle at Coachella 2012 created a wave of plans to reanimate countless expired legends, nothing much came to light – partially because the company responsible went bankrupt. But if a new interview with the son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham is to be believed, the percussive monster may soon be the next artist to get the full magic-revival treatment.
The Zeppelin drummer, who died aged 32 in 1980, is held in high regard to this day for his beastly approach to holding the low end for the legendary rock outfit. His son Jason filled his father’s position when Led Zeppelin reformed for a single show at London’s The O2 venue in 2007, and also leads tribute act The Led Zeppelin Experience.
In an interview with Legendary Rock Interviews, Jason made his intentions clear: ”I’m talking to people about holograms. My dream is to do a drum solo with Dad next to me.”
The LZE is currently the opening act for Heart on tour, and Bonham has serious aspirations about making the technological leap.
“It’s important to me to have something in addition to the music, that was the whole point of it,” Bonham explained. “When I first started doing this, I was working with some of the people behind some of the biggest tribute tours like Pink Floyd Experience, The Beatles, and now I’m doing it. It’s imperative that I continue putting together the best shows and take it to the next level.”
Sounds like an attention-grabbing gimmick to us. It’s not likely that the Bonham hologram idea will become a reality, as plans to reanimate everyone from Elvis to Aaliyah have fallen through before any could become a (virtual) reality.
