Video Exclusive: The Things They Carried – ‘Something Humans Crave’

Long Island quartet The Things They Carried (known to fans as 3TC) have returned with Jamais Vu, a new EP to follow their ambitiously metalcore 2010 debut There’s Something I Can’t Tell Anyone.

Jamais Vu finds the band opting for melodic clean vocals and more experimental song structures, to the delight of fans eager for a sonic evolution in these rapidly-shifting times. The result creates orchestral, melodic soundscapes and a daunting emotional intensity.

“With this EP, we wanted to create something that we had never heard before,” explains vocalist/guitarist Steve Schwartz. “There was no holding back.”

The lyrical themes heard throughout the EP are just as unguarded, ranging from addiction to family. The latter topic inspiring the song “ARPAD” dealing with Schwartz father and the new single “Something Humans Crave”.

Addressing the topic of “Something Humans Crave,” Schwartz explains “the song is about craving love, but being afraid to love someone because of what that person is going through.”

Formed in 2009, consists of Schwartz, Matt Sprio (guitar/backing vocals), Eric Phil (bass), and Andy Illiano (drums) following the breakup of Schwartz and Illiano’s previous band. It didn’t take long for them to record their first EP Attention Crisis, followed by There’s Something I Can’t Tell Anyone in 2010. Bolstered by their love of performing live, the group has toured nationwide, playing alongside Otep, Alesana, Andrew W.K., Butcher Babies, Ice Nine Kills, and Blackguard.

In support of the EP, The Things They Carried will be performing at Dirtfest 2013 in Birch Run, MI on August 10th alongside Asking Alexandria, Escape The Fate, RED and many others. Dates for a national tour are currently in the works, including select dates with American Head Charge.
