The new Arcade Fire single “Reflektor” from their latest album of the same name leaked before its official New York release, which was scheduled for today. Despite a desperate rush to have the song taken down across the internet, it can still be heard here.
Update: Watch the new Arcade Fire video below!
The band had planned to put out the song on September 9th (9/9) at 9pm as well as the accompanying music video, which was directed by Anton Corbijn. However, as one blogger from The Gazette in Montreal said, “…It leaked on Saturday, to the delight of fans and, if you ask me, [it was] Arcade Fire themselves, who love these sort of gimmicky little things that do so much to rev up the buzz around the band.” Rumours are also swirling that David Bowie is featured on the track although nothing has been confirmed.
Then, a surprise concert by Arcade Fire happened that evening at a small salsa club in Montreal. One hundred tickets were put on sale just hours before the show, and the band, who posed as a group called The Reflektors for the last-minute publicity of the show, stipulated that all attendees to the show dress formally or in a costume. “They’re by far one of the most important groups in Canada right now,” Eric Smith of Ottawa said to The Canadian Press from outside the club. “When they’re together, they’re really special.”
Arcade Fire, who hail from Montreal, are set to release their fourth studio album Reflektor on October 29th. They’ve won slews of awards, including two BRIT Awards, two Grammys, and six Junos. The band is made up of husband and wife duo Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, Will Butler, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury, and Jeremy Gara.
