Aussie indie rock four-piece The Jezabels released the first taste of their upcoming album on Monday in the form of the new single ‘The End’.
Featuring ‘The End’ simultaneously on Australian broadcaster Triple J on Monday afternoon and BBC6 in the UK, The Jezabels are gearing up for their second full-length studio album after 2011’s Prisoner raced to No.2 on the Australian ARIA charts.
Speaking to Triple J host Lindsay McDougall, vocalist Hayley Mary said the ‘The End’ raises “existential questions“.
“I think everyone gets down at times,” she said. “Maybe it’s not [about] the end of your life – it might be a job or a relationship – and you ask yourself ‘is this the end of what I believe in?’ And then you kind of go: ‘OR is it a new beginning?”
The Jezabels relocated to London to record the new album and work with producer Dan Grech-Marguerat (Moby, Sicssor Sisters, Lana Del Rey, Keane, The Vaccines, The Kooks) after producing Prisoner at Sydney’s Attic Studios.
The band will end their extended Australian hiatus as part of the lineup to next year’s Laneway festival.
“That’s basically the first time we come back and play new album songs,” she said. “And I think our album’s coming out around then too.”
