We first heard about a WarCraft film as far back as 2006. We’re now in 2013 with no WarCraft film to show for it, and in that time four expansions for World of WarCraft have been released. So where is it? Well, it’s currently scheduled for a release in December 2015, and while that’s a ways off it’s for a good reason.
Speaking to GameSpot, Blizzard COO Paul Sams made it clear that the Warcraft film is not being rushed. Although Legendary Pictures is behind the project, it’s following strict standards to ensure it retains an authentic plot and design. Blizzard is doing everything in its power to ensure that fans of the IP aren’t let-down. That doesn’t mean it’ll jeopardize quality, either. Sams says “come 2015, we’re going to have something special”.
It’s unknown what the story will be centered around, and there’s enough lore in the WarCraft universe to make dozens of films. It’ll be a while longer before it sees the light of day, and by then Blizzard’s next MMORPG, Project Titan, will be near its expected release window.
