Splurging on a brand-new consoles can be a real wallet killer. Sometimes it’s up to demos of games to provide entertainment during the early months, or even just to provide a safe purchase. But if you’re into the Xbox One, your choices have been very limited.
Major Nelson replied to concerns about the limited availability of demos on Xbox One with the following comment on his blog:
It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. [There will] be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward.
For now, there are a few choices for free entertainment. Killer Instinct is a good fighting game that has no initial cost, although only one character is available to start. There’s also a demo of Kinect Sports Rivals featuring a Jet Ski level, and Kinect Fitness (which Joey Davidson happens to think is awesome).
While there are choices, they don’t stack well up against the competition. Sony’s PS4 has two games available for free to PS Plus members, Contrast and Resogun. There are also several free-to-play games including the likes of DC Universe Online. Even if all that isn’t enough, there are at least five demos ready for download.
The Xbox 360 has demos available for many of its most praised games, so there’s no reason to think Nelson’s comment isn’t accurate. However, in the short-term Xbox One gamers must wait.
