EA has been no stranger to controversy. For the past two years, consumers have fought back what is one of the largest gaming corporations in the world by giving it an overwhelming number of nominations for Consumerist’s Worst Company in America award. After another anti-consumer year, EA is on the path to securing another win, marking the world’s first three-peat of the award.
A post regarding’s 2013’s Worst Company in America award on Consumerist reads:
We haven’t even begun to ask for nominations from readers for the next Worst Company In America tournament, but some are already making the case for once again giving the Golden Poo trophy to reigning two-time WCIA winner Electronic Arts.
2013 was a truly hellish year for EA. Three award-winning franchises were butchered: Dead Space, Plants and Zombies, and SimCity. Tons of fan feedback was ignored, including beta feedback which could’ve prevented Battlefield 4 from suffering the pains of a premature launch (these issues still haven’t been resolved three months later, mind you). As if that wasn’t enough, NBA Live 2014 was arguably the worst basketball game in the past 10 years.
EA has begun 2014 on a mildly positive note by adding an offline mode and mod support for SimCity, but it’ll need to do a lot more to win back the trust of customers. It also ditched the online pass model it innovated in 2009, requiring an additional fee for second-hand purchases.
Consumerist will announce its Worst Company in America for 2013 in March or April.
