The Who are planning to record a new album this year, frontman Roger Daltrey has revealed.
Speaking to NME, Daltrey said that bandmate Pete Townshend has “hundreds of songs” for the upcoming LP. “He wants to make an album and I’m always ready and raring to go”, the 69-year-old said. “We’ll see. I never know what I’m doing next, it’s about what comes through my letterbox tomorrow, but I don’t see why we wouldn’t. My voice is still in good shape. The hearing isn’t so great, but the voice is fine.”
Daltrey, who is set to curate the annual Teenage Cancer Trust gigs this March, also spoke of his thoughts on The Who’s upcoming 50th anniversary. “I haven’t thought about it, to be honest”, he said. “We didn’t think it was going to last the week, let alone 50 years. We were The Who, we used to break up after every show.”
Daltrey is set to release an album with Wilko, titled Going Back Home, in March. He also recently announced the line-up for the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, which includes the likes of The Cure, Ed Sheeran and Paolo Nutini.
