We’ve been waiting for this one for quite some time. Brody Dalle, the gravel-throated rock goddess who brought us The Distillers and Spinnerette is ready to pull the trigger on her first solo album, due out this April, and goddamnit we’re on fire with excitement.
Listen below to “Meet The Foetus,” the first taste of Brody’s solo album, recorded with QOTSA and Arctic Monkeys collaborator Alain Johannes and featuring Garbage’s Shirley Manson on backing vocals. We’re admittedly a bit surprised by the Garbage-inspired gentle sway of the first half of the track, but when that guitar kicks in just before the three-minute mark, it all clicks into place with contextual glory.
The track’s obvious maternal lean makes the song that much more captivating, given the rocker’s propensity for 5th-gear aggression and downright intimidating vocal presence in the past. “You have sailed through the eye of my needle/A perfect parasite burgeoning Eden,” Mrs. Homme sings before declaring “Sh-sh-shot through the heart, baby/I’m gonna love you forever.”
We’ll keep you posted on more new album details as they surface!
