Complex TV has helped surface some old studio footage from Coodie Simmons, exclusive videographer for the making of Kanye West’s debut album. In the video below, a very young Kanye can be seen playing “Never Let Me Down” for a young Pharrell for the first time, rapping for the producer.
The clip is a time machine to a simpler era, with ‘Ye still years away from his ridiculous obsession with fashion… and still a little rough around the edges as a spitter. Nevertheless, Pharrell’s reaction at the clip’s conclusion is pretty awesome.
Complex also dropped this clip of Consequence and Kanye freestyling as West drives around the streets of New York with a snapback and a crack in his voice. The talent distribution is badly uneven here, as Con wipes the floor with him on a truly awesome freestyle verse. Granted, he wasn’t focusing on the road as he rhymed, but still.
