SXSW: CraveOnline Brings Lady Gaga, Odd Future Out To Play With Celebrated Showcase

The notion that we could top CraveOnline’s music showcase at SXSW last year seemed preposterous… until we blew it out of the water with a hugely successful show on Wednesday night in Austin, with a little help from Lady Gaga and Odd Future.

Gaga was onstage with Semi Precious Weapons for the duration of their spectacular headlining set at Crave’s Music Showcase at Rusty’s on 7th, making a magnificent musical fireworks show of their only SXSW performance in 2014. As throngs of fans crowded the capacity room, our Band of the Month for March obliterated expectations with a set consisting mostly of new material from their upcoming album, while Gaga cheered on from side stage.

Earlier, in a sharknado of musical awesomeness, Mellow Hype’s set became a full Odd Future show, resulting in a stage-diving, pit-brewing bonanza. This was just after CraveOnstage artist 8mm killed us with sexy sweetness, featuring an adorable cover of Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me.”

Hellbenders did Brazil proud with an incredibly intense, maniacally rockin’ performance that conjured an idea of what a child raised on The Cult and Black Sabbath would sound like. While Miniature Tigers turned on the dance party and Queen Caveat destroyed, as former Band of The Month The Silent Comedy brought a slew of new material to the stage in a riotous soul-cabaret folk extravaganza, riding a high wave of energy as they round the bend on production for their hotly anticipated new album.

Exclusive Session: Semi Precious Weapons – “Never Going Home”

I didn’t didn’t think it was possible for us to top last year’s incredible SXSW show, but somehow, we did. Our deepest appreciation goes out to everyone involved and attended, with very special thanks going to Swing House Studios, whose in-house production is second to none.

We’ve got a ton more coverage to bring you from not only our show but the entirety of SXSW – with many links below and upcoming updates to explore. Check it out!
