Jim Cuddy, the lead singer of Blue Rodeo, who recently received news that they’d be receiving a Governor General’s arts award, was his usual humble self.
“We’re not used to participating in this world, the world of high honours. We’re used to our world of concerts, Junos, and this is something entirely different,” Cuddy said in a telephone interview from Toronto (The Canadian Press).
The iconic Canadian band, along with other notable artists like actors Tom Jackson and Brent Carver, were celebrated at various events across the country Wednesday night.
Canadian artists have received Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards since 1992. Artists are recognized from a variety of disciplines for lifetime achievements; having had an extraordinary performance year or for voluntarism in the performing arts
“We are thrilled to honour and celebrate each of these exceptionally talented Canadians who have brought us a lifetime of joy, insight and wonder,” said Douglas Knight, chair of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Foundation (GGPAAF), in a media release (Ottawa Citizen)
