Metallica had fans pinching themselves on repeat on Monday night, at the 10th anniversary MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. You may have seen a Metallica cover or ten in your day, but the band’s four-song acoustic set was a mindblowing run of other artists’ work, including The Beatles, Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple and Rare Earth, the videos for which you can see below.
Metallica’s MusiCares benefit setlist:
01. I Just Want To Celebrate (Rare Earth cover)
02. When A Blind Man Cries (Deep Purple cover)
03. In My Life (The Beatles cover)
04. Diary Of A Madman (Ozzy Osbourne cover)
Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and Village Studios owner and CEO Jeff Greenberg were the night’s honorees, but Metallica has a special connection to MusiCares, which provides recovery and treatment access to members of the music community. Frontman James Hetfield went sober in 2001, and was honored by MusiCares in 2006.
Metallica said in a statement, “We are so proud to be a part of the tenth annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert . . . It’s no secret that Ozzy has been a major presence throughout our entire lives and we are so humbled and honored to be with Ozzy for this special evening.”
Ozzy was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund and his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction recovery process.
