Microsoft Offering Refunds to Xbox Live Subscribers After Paywall Removal

Microsoft is continuing its campaign to get back in the good books of gamers everywhere, after the company announced that it will be offering refunds to Xbox Live Gold subscribers following the removal of its entertainment app paywall.

Though this refund is intended to appeal to those who paid for an Xbox Live subscription solely to access entertainment apps such as Netflix on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, the refund is available to everyone.

In order to apply for the refund you must submit an online request before August 31st, 2014. You can apply right here.

Microsoft’s announced yesterday that it was lifting the paywall that required Xbox One/Xbox 360 owners to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold if they wanted to access entertainment apps such as Netflix and Hulu. This was a welcome decision for Xbox owners, as Microsoft’s rival Sony is already offering its entertainment apps free of charge on the PS4 and PS3. The news also came after Microsoft made the huge announcement that it was going to allow customers to purchase the Xbox One without the Kinect for $399/£349.

Applications for Xbox Live refunds can be made after the paywall is lifted via a system update next month. Microsoft has said that the refunds will take six to eights weeks to process.
