Messi discussed Argentina’s chances of winning the World Cup 2014 following their 2-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying that the team must improve if they want to take home the trophy at the end of the tournament.
Messi scored a remarkable goal to put Argentina 2-0 up, being the only Argentinean to score during the game after Sead Kolasinac scored an unfortunate own goal and substitute Vedad Ibisevic reduced the goal difference by making it 2-1 in the late stages of the game.
Speaking of Argentina’s performance, Messi said: “It’s important that we started off on the right foot with the three points, but we do have things we must improve. It’s not easy with all the anxiety and the nerves, but the important thing is the result. We had a great second half. We had the ball much more, created several opportunities and that’s what we have to continue to do.”
Messi also commented on the formation change from 5 in defense to 4-3-3 helped him and teammate Sergio Aguero create more chances, saying: “As strikers, we prefer that system as it gives us more attacking opportunities and if we don’t use that system we suffer a bit.
“I was often on my own and so was Kun [Aguero] and it was very difficult, so there are things to be improved on.”
Aguero was substituted during the match after visibly limping, though Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella stated that his substitution was due to him being tired, not for injury reasons.
