Arcade Fire Taunt Rich People at British Summer Time Festival

Arcade Fire played their headline set at London’s British Summer Time festival last night (July 3rd), using their time onstage to mock local complaints about the festival being held at Hyde Park.

The Canadian band, who followed performances from the likes of Jake Bugg, Future Islands and Wild Beasts, played a set that mostly focused upon tracks from their latest album Reflektor, and as the show roared into the night frontman Win Butler whispered to fans “Shh, don’t wake the rich people up,” in reference to the local residents who had complained about the gig taking place near their homes.

The Mayfair residents specifically objected to Pete Doherty’s appearance at the festival, with the troubled frontman reuniting with The Libertines this weekend. The wealthy home-owners in the region are reportedly concerned about Doherty being in the area given his past criminal offenses, and have also expressed concerns about the band breaking the curfew.

Speaking of the complaints, Doherty’s Libertines’ bandmate Carl Barat said: “If people are concerned about noise they shouldn’t have moved to Hyde Park.”
