Back in January, the future of transformative rockers Radiohead seemed uncertain, with bassist Colin Greenwood illustrating the need for everyone to take it easy. Now, three years since the release of The King of Limbs, the band is gearing up to return to the studio for the next album installment, their ninth studio effort. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood confirmed as much during an appearance on Mary Anne Hobbes’ BBC 6Music show.
“We’re going to start up in September, playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it’s sounding,” Greenwood said.
While the Radiohead monster rested, frontman Thom Yorke was doing anything but kicking back. His “super band” Atoms for Peace has received rave reviews for both their incredible live performances and their debut album, Amok.

The other members have been keeping busy as Thom spaz-danced his way around the world with AFP; Greenwood has continued work on orchestral film scores (including Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming Inherent Vice) while drummer Philip Selway has been working on his second solo album, set for release in October.
While we wait, Greenwood will perform his score to There Will Be Blood live for the first time ever, in London this August. He’ll then bring the event to New York in September.
