The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is headed our way this September and the producers have decided to follow in the hip-hop footsteps of the previous films. They’ve now unveiled a modern-day “Ninja Rap” for the film’s soundtrack, courtesy of Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J and Ty Dolla $ign, titled “Shell Shocked”.
“It was brought to my attention there are a lot of artists in the hip-hop world that are big, true fans of this beloved property,” Paramount Pictures president of music Randy Spendlove told Billboard. “We felt we should reach out to guys who really love the franchise and build an event.”
The trio have certainly done their homework, with just about every lyric referencing our beloved Turtles — Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo — their love of pizza and their skill at kicking Foot Clan butt, while tying the TMNT world into the world of hip-hop with some gloriously cheesy lines like, “Bought the orange Lamborghini, call it Michelangelo”.
The song was originally slated to include A$AP Rocky, who had to bow out due to scheduling issues. “We opted to leave him off the track,” said Spendlove, noting, “I think we’ll see something special from him that he’ll do on his own in honour of the Ninja Turtles.”
