Gotham Will Air in the UK on Channel 5

US series Gotham will air in the UK on Channel 5, shortly after its premiere on FOX on September 22nd.

The show, which serves as a prequel to the Batman story and follows the rise of James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) to Commissioner of the crime-ridden city, will also feature an orphaned 12-year-old Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) before he dons the infamous cape and cowl.

The series will also feature a variety of villains lifted from the DC Comics universe, including a young Catwoman and The Penguin, as James Gordon looks to capture the killer of Bruce Wayne’s parents.

The show appears to be a unique spin on Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli’s graphic novel Year One, in which James Gordon serves as the protagonist and the narrative is heavily focused upon his relationship with Batman, as both heroes attempt to bring Gotham’s criminal underworld to justice. However, unlike Year One, Bruce Wayne is nowhere near his transformation into The Dark Knight because, y’know, he’s 12 years old. Still, we should expect to see some shades of how the relationship between Gotham’s best crime-fighting duo (forget Robin) came into fruition.

Speaking of the show, Channel 5’s head of acquisitions Katie Keenan said: “I don’t think there was a more exciting show at the LA screenings this year. Gotham is a thrilling drama built on iconic characters that fascinate.

“Channel 5 is delighted to become the home of such a powerful, bold and visually stunning show.”
