England’s Euro 2016 Qualifier Squad Named, Sturridge Left Out by Hodgson

The England squad that will face San Marino and Estonia in the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament has been named, with coach Roy Hodgson leaving out Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge as he is still recuperating from an injury sustained last month.

The squad will boast three strikers, with Danny Welbeck returning to action as he continues his excellent return to form. However, the FA seemed confused as to the Arsenal striker’s current club, with him still being listed as playing for Manchester United in the official team sheet.

The full squad is as follows:

  • F Forster (Southampton)
  • B Foster (West Brom)
  • J Hart (Manchester City)
  • L Baines (Everton)
  • G Cahill (Chelsea)
  • N Clyne (Southampton)
  • K Gibbs (Arsenal)
  • P Jagielka (Everton)
  • J Stones (Everton)
  • F Delph (Aston Villa)
  • J Henderson (Liverpool)
  • A Lallana (Liverpool)
  • J Milner (Manchester City)
  • A Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal)
  • J Shelvey (Swansea)
  • R Sterling (Liverpool)
  • A Townsend (Tottenham)
  • J Wilshere (Arsenal)
  • R Lambert (Liverpool)
  • W Rooney (Manchester United)
  • D Welbeck (Arsenal)

Speaking of Sturridge’s absence from the squad, Hodgson said: “That’s a great blow for us and it’s been a big blow for Liverpool, of course, and it will continue to be.

“It’s also a blow for the player because he was very anxious to be a part of these two games, but unfortunately injuries happen and we all accept it so there are no problems or conflict there at all.”

England will play San Marino at Wembley on October 9th before playing away at Estonia on October 12th.
