Scratch Cassettes Like Vinyl With New ScrubBoard Tape Device

 

If you’re the kind of music hoarder still clinging to cassette tapes (yeah, we’re guilty) a new device will help you enjoy the hell out of ruining them. 

An innovative cassette tinkerer named Jeremy Bell has put together a device he calls “the ScrubBoard,” which enables people to “scratch” the tape like vinyl records, played in much the same way a DJ uses two turntables and a mixer. Two pieces of tape sections are pulled from their reels and stretched across a board, while still plugged into a sound source. Two tape heads, removed from portable cassette players, are used to “scratch” the tape, creating the desired sound. 

Admittedly, the results on the homemade machine do sound pretty badass, as evidenced by the prototype demonstration video:
