Liam Gallagher has revealed that his band Beady Eye have split up, after releasing just two mediocre albums that failed to rouse both critics and Oasis fans alike.
The frontman made the announcement on Twitter, writing: “Beady Eye are no longer. Thanks for all your support. LGx” Fellow band member Andy Bell also tweeted about the split, writing: “Thanks to all the Beady Eye fans. I had a blast. See you on the other side. Big Love Andy B X”
Beady Eye were formed after Oasis’ tumultuous break-up, which also saw Noel Gallagher go solo alongside his band the High Flying Birds. However, while Noel’s output was generally well-received after Oasis disbanded, Beady Eye’s material was met with a less than stellar response. Despite featuring three former Oasis members in the shape of Liam Gallagher, Andy Bell and Gem Archer, the band failed to set the music world alight, with their debut album Different Gear, Still Speeding managing to shift just 500,000 copies before they were dropped by their managers.
Their follow-up album BE fared slightly better, though was still seemingly not enough to warrant Gallagher & co. continuing with Beady Eye. Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher’s recently announced 2015 tour sold out in under 10 minutes.
It’s unclear where Liam Gallagher’s music career is headed now that Beady Eye have disbanded, though many will inevitably take this as a sign that Oasis could potentially be reuniting in the coming months, though given the continued popularity of Noel Gallagher’s solo career that seems increasingly unlikely. Still, we predict that the “Oasis for Glastonbury 2015” rumours will soon be in full swing, so look forward to that.
