Album Premiere: New York Funk Exchange ‘This Is Your Brain On Funk’

Brooklyn’s 9-piece funk-rock outfit New York Funk Exchange are hitting the holiday-release wave early and hard today with the release their sophomore album, This is Your Brain On Funk, premiering exclusively on Crave.

Fronted by powerhouse chanteuse Serena Fortier (who you’ve likely seen onstage with everyone from Galactic to Damian Marley, Nas to Martha and the Vandellas and beyond), NYFE’s second full-length album possesses flavors of influence from the likes of James Brown, Michael Jackson, Jill Scott, and De la Soul, among others. A hybrid sound of old school funk, jazz, soul and R&B, This is Your Brain on Funk was recorded at both the legendary Avatar Studios and newly renovated Chung King Studios.

This Is Your Brain On Funk is new school with an old soul,” Fortier explains to Crave. “Screaming horns and funky grooves, combined with strong hooks and catchy melodies, make the album the perfect blend of the old with the new.”

Can’t say we disagree. Check out the entire album below exclusively on CraveOnline, and pick it up on Amazon:
