No, the above image isn’t from Helicopter Simulator 2014 — it’s from Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the heavily rumored first-person mode will indeed appear in GTA V‘s upcoming re-release, and from the look of things, it may actually be a worthwhile way to play.
The new trailer can be found over at IGN, while the latest screens demonstrate an impressive level of environmental detail and graphical attention that a first-person perspective absolutely demands. I can’t imagine the PS3 edition of the game looking all that great this up-close and personal. With the power of PS4 and Xbox One, though, suddenly the idea looks incredibly compelling.

In other news, PC players will be happy to learn that their version of the game will run in full 4k resolution, assuming you have the hardware to support such a demanding task. There’s still little hands-on info to report about the new version just yet, though CVG did describe the game’s visuals as “amazing” and “magical” in a recent preview. Those are not terms thrown around lightly (I usually save “magical” for describing unicorns), so if anything it certainly seems safe to let your excitement run a bit more rampant than normal. Not that I’d expect anything less than excellent from Rockstar.
Regardless, some of the new screens can be seen here, and I’m certainly counting the days until I can get my hands on this thing and experience Los Santos in a brand new way. Perhaps an entirely first person playthrough is in order? Absolutely – though I may not have the stomach to stay in that mode for the notorious torture mission.
