Video Premiere: Graveyard Lovers Hold a Light For Buskers in ‘Stranger’

On the same day we were moved by an adorable little girl starting an impromptu dance party on a subway platform, Crave is proud to premiere the new video from Brooklyn’s dark-melody masters Graveyard Lovers, which shines an illuminating spotlight on the enduring passion of street musicians performing their craft.

Graveyard Lovers premiered their last album Dreamers exclusively on CraveOnline, on which they grabbed the spirit of rock ‘n roll by the throat and channeled a barrage of gritty, heavy blues riffs through a groove-rich spectrum inhabited by the likes of Jack White and Band of Skulls. Now we bring you the exclusive video premiere of “Stranger,” from the trio of Zach Reynolds (guitar, vox), Joel Reynolds (bass) and Tricia Purvis (drums). In addition to footage of the band in the studio, the clip features several street performers playing simply for the passion of the music, the occasional handful of change and the infectious smiles produced by a perfect moment of sound.

“The video was started last year as a creative outlet for a particularly long and depressing winter,” explains Zach. “In the middle of it my Grandma passed away that I was really close to. Thats who Mimi is at the end of the vid. When I started filming these musicians in the subway I found it really inspiring considering they do it in cold, loud, kind of gross conditions all the time and simply for the love of it. Its a tribute to them and a reminder to DIY bands why we keep slogging it out despite the difficulties of todays music industry. The subway system in NYC can be really depressing and these performers hold a light down there. I think its a good metaphor for life to be able to find beauty despite how fucked up it can be.”

Currently at work on their next album, the band is playing a one-off show in NYC at Mercury Lounge on December 15th. Find out more on the show right here, and keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter.
