EA/DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most hotly anticipated upcoming games for any Star Wars fan, and if these alleged leaks are to be believed, our excitement levels are now through the roof.
According to the fan site Making Star Wars, a slew of information regarding the third Battlefront has been leaked, revealing a great deal about the game. Along with claiming that it will act as a prequel to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the leaks also state that the game’s campaign will span “pretty much” the entire Star Wars saga – that’s every movie from Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi. Players will be able to assume the role of the Old Republic, Rebellion, Republic, Separatists and the Empire throughout the course of the campaign.

The game’s conclusion will also reportedly include action scenes taken from The Force Awakens, though as it will allegedly release around a month prior to the upcoming film’s debut in theaters nothing too revealing is expected to be included. It will also reportedly see scenes from between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, but Lucasfilms allegedly has “a lot planned” for this era of the Star Wars universe in the future, so again, the game is unlikely to cover it in great detail.
The game’s conclusion will reportedly feature scenes from The Force Awakens.
Space to land battles are also set to happen, though will only take place in certain game modes. It will also reportedly feature 64-player online multiplayer combat. The “Hero” system from Star Wars Battlefront II is also set to make a reappearance, with players earning points throughout the match to decide who will be able to assume the role of these “extremely powerful” characters. According to the leak, the system is built so that every player on the field can have a chance to play as a Hero during the course of a single match.
EA/DICE is also looking to support the game for months/years following its release with an “extremely aggressive” approach to downloadable content. There are five packs of DLC already planned, with the first expected to release at the end of 2015. Each one will be themed, with the first two/three packs being based exclusively around The Force Awakens. Each batch of DLC will contain three new maps, new ships/vehicles and new Hero characters.
If these leaks are to be believed, then Star Wars Battlefront sounds like it’s shaping up to be a hugely impressive game that will carry the series into the current console generation. We can’t wait to hear more.
