Footage has emerged of a Foo Fighters side project teaming up with Wolfmother‘s Andrew Stockdale and professional surfer Stephanie Gilmore on the Gold Coast.
Chevy Metal, a rock cover band featuring Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters, as well as their touring keyboardist Rami Jaffee, were joined by Stockdale and Gilmore at Snapper Rocks last Friday, 6th March, as part of a free show to open the 2015 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour.
Chevy Metal’s set saw covers of songs by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Midnight Oil, Van Halen and The Knack.
Gilmore played guitar alongside Shiflett on the Stones classic Bitch, as Stockdale took vocal responsibilities on Black Sabbath’s The Wizard and Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure. Hawkins, of course, was mostly behind the drums, although he did step up for vocal duty on Bowie’s Blue Jean.
The Snapper Rocks performance marked a pretty huge shift in crowd capacity for the Foo Fighters boys, who played to stadium crowds across Australia in the past few weeks on their Sonic Highways tour, during which they received their own rockin’ musical cameo.
Chevy Metal’s WSL show was also put together to raise awareness for the Mauli Ola Foundation, who help people living with genetic diseases. View footage from the afternoon below.
