Exclusive Interview: Taryn Manning Talks Orange Is The New Black, Comic-Con & More!

At this year’s Comic-Con International, CraveOnline returned to San Diego and teamed up with Alienware for our annual party on the USS Midway. This year’s host was Orange is The New Black actress, Taryn Manning, and she set the stage for epic performances by Cold War Kids, Bad Suns, and Cathedrals!

Before the Crave Escape party, we had a chance to speak with Manning one-on-one about her current music plans and which comic book heroine she wants to cosplay!

Manning grew up in San Diego, so this wasn’t her first Comic-Con. Manning also told us about her favorite moment from Orange is the New Black Season 3; which happened to involve one of her co-stars. She also told us about the character arc of Tiffany “Pennsatucky” Doggett, the woman whom she portrays on that show.

Additionally, Manning shared the story of why she became a musician and when she realized that she was a songwriter. Nor was Manning shy about telling us about her music release strategy, and how she has adjusted to the changing industry. She also teased her new music video and her collaboration with KDrew.

As a musician, Manning has released EPs for “So Talented,” “Spotlight,” “Turn It Up,” “Send Me Your Love,” “Summer Ashes,” and “All The Way For Love” before compiling them on her solo album, Freedom City. Manning has also collaborated with Butch Walker, Tony DeNiro, and Razihel in addition being one half of the electronic duo known as Boomkat.

Manning’s resume as an actress also goes far beyond her three season stint on Orange is The New Black. She made her TV debut in an episode of The Practice, and she went on to appear in Crazy/Beautiful, Crossroads, 8 Mile, White Oleander, Hawaii Five-0, Lucky 13 and Debating Robert Lee. She will also be back for the fourth season of Orange is The New Black in 2016!
