Actor Jack Black has become the latest celebrity to criticise Tony Abbott for his position on marriage equality.
Promoting his new show “The Brink” which sees characters tackle different time crises around the world, 2DayFM breakfast hosts Dan and Maz suggested that maybe he could bring the show to Australia to challenge marriage equality.
Black responded that the show was focussing more on “military coups,” but did have a few words for Abbott and his stance on the issue.
“I personally think the guy’s living in the stone ages, though,” he said.
“He’s not seeing the writing on the wall. The movement of the world is heading towards equality for all people, all sexual preferences. Come on, we’re all the same in the end. Who cares what gives you a boner. Really?”
This week the majority of the Coalition party voted not to allow a conscience vote on the issue after a lengthy party room meeting. Abbott said that changing their policy on marriage equality would “dud” those who voted for the government in the election.
Black’s comments on Abbott only continued as the hosts brought up the PM’s raw onion eating incidents. “Yeah, he sounds like a bit of a nutter,” responded Black, “a bit of a nutter butter”.
The School Of Rock actor’s sentiments echo those of Russell Brand who has repeatedly criticised Abbott’s views. Brand has called him an “absolute raving lunatic” and also said that he will “try and gay marry” the PM when he gets here next month.
