Attention comic book movie fans: There are potential SPOILERS AHEAD for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If true, they sound really silly. But just in case you don’t want to know anything about it, stop reading now!
Still here? Then you may recall that Michael Shannon’s General Zod was pretty definitively killed off at the end of Man of Steel when Superman snapped his neck to save civilians. That was a big controversy among Superman fans, many of whom feel that the Last Son of Krypton should never kill his foes. Remember, Christopher Nolan went out of his way to make sure that Batman never killed anyone in The Dark Knight Trilogy. But Superman’s gonna be the one who kills?!
Anyway, Shannon has spoken about his part in Batman v Superman during an interview with Vulture. And it’s the most bizarre thing we’ve heard about the movie.
“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands,” explained Shannon. “So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the f*** is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’”
Flippers?! What the f***, Snyder?! That sounds goofier than anything in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Getting back to Shannon’s story, he said that he was saved by the “craft-service guy, who doesn’t have the best craft service. He was actually paying attention to what was going on. He came over and he opened the door for me. Otherwise I would have gotten fired.”
I’m still not convinced that this isn’t Shannon’s idea of a joke, although some fans are suggesting that he’ll mutate into Superman’s deadliest foe, Doomsday. To which I say, “did Doomsday ever have any god-damned flippers?!”
Alright, I’m done. Feel free to weigh in on Flipper-gate in the comment section below!
