Before they became television masters, The Chaser team were publishing a self-titled newspaper and now sixteen years after its first issue they are planning on returning to the print format through a crowdfunding campaign.
The Chaser boys, Andrew Hansen, Chris Taylor, Chas Licciardello, Craig Reucassel, Dominic Knight and Charles Firth, are chasing $50,000 through Pozible to relaunch the newspaper in Spring. They have already raised around $3,400 and have until 24th September to come up with the full amount.
As expected, the Pozible description of why they are returning to print is, like the newspaper, mostly satirical. “The Chaser Quarterly addresses the key problem of our time: namely – there is not enough content in this world,” wrote Firth.
“Using a unique patent-pending Content Generation System (“writing”), our highly trained Chaser Content Specialists (“writers”), will use bleeding-edge, state of the art technology (“computers”) to create long-form graphical internet essays (“memes”), tailor-made for a world bereft of content.”
The rewards for pledging include a copy of the first edition of The Chaser Quarterly with your name printed on it, a platinum membership, a day hanging out in The Chaser’s offices and a full page-ad in the publication.
The original Chaser newspaper folded in 2005. They went on to create the hugely successful “The Chaser’s War On Everything” for the ABC and have since followed it up with “The Hamster Wheel” and “The Checkout”.
To convince you to drop some coin on the project, the boys have made a brilliantly sarcastic video built around the slogan, “The Chaser Quarterly is you.” If you believe that it is you, then you can pledge here.
